在四川省委、省政府的关心和支持下，四川省人民政府政务服务中心 于2001年10月9日正式对外办公。这是四川省委、省政府落实"三个代表"重要思想，推行政务公开，改革行政审批制度的一项重大举措。
四川省人民政府政务服务中心设在成都市草市街2号(邮政编码：610017，投诉电话：86936179)按照省政府的要求，省发改委、省经委、省人口计生委、省教育厅、省科技厅、省公安厅、省司法厅、省信息产业厅、省民政厅、省人事厅、省财政厅、省劳动保障厅、省国土资源厅、省建设厅、省交通厅、省水利厅、省农业厅、省林业厅、省商务厅、省文化厅、省卫生厅、省安全厅、省地税局、省环保局、省广电局、省工商局、省新闻出版局、省质监局、省食品药监局、省旅游局、省宗教局、省通信管理局、省体育局、省地震局、省气象局、省物价局、省畜牧食品局、省测绘局、省档案局、省中医局、省知识产权局、省农机局、省黄金局、省粮食局、省盐务局、省统计局、省邮政局、省煤管局、省国防科工办、省侨办等57个省级部门的面向社会服务的880项行政审批事项在省政府政务服务中心集中受理。公民、法人和其他组织，凡需向省级部门申请办理有关行政审批手续的，均到上述部门设在政务服务中心的窗口递交申请，有关部门依法审批并在法定期限内回交申请人。
按照省政府的规定，国家和省投资的重大建设项目、省级建设项目的招投标活动在省政府政务服务中心 内设的招投标大厅进行。该招投标大厅同时对外开放，为社会各方的招投标活动提供场所和服务。
省政府政务服务中心负责对涉及两个以上部门行政审批的组织协调；对进入政务服务中心的各部门窗口工作人员进行现场管理；对各个部门的行政审批的运转情况进行协调和督察；受理公民、法人和其他组织对进入政务服务中心、提供政务服务的工作人员违纪违法行为的操作举报；受理对在政务服务中心进行的招标活动的投诉、举报，出现问题及时移送有关机关依法查处。同时，省纪委、省监察厅在政务大厅设立专门的窗口，负责对进驻中心的省级有关部门的廉政建设情况进行监督和监察，受理投诉。
四川省人民政府政务服务中心以"廉洁、勤政、务实、高效"为基本工作原则，在四川省委、省政府的直接领导下努力探索改革和实施行政审批制度，完善行政运行机制。省政府政务服务中心不仅是改革行政审批制度的载体，而且是省级行政机关为人民服务的窗口，更是行政机关联系社会和广大人民群众的纽带。
